The Shattering
When Deathwing emerged from Deepholm, Azeroth was torn apart. The Cataclysm shattered the land, destroyed cities, and unleashed the elements across the world. But the damage went further than anyone expected. The immense power released by Deathwing's return weakened the barriers between Azeroth and the Twisting Nether.
Unstable portals began appearing across the world. Some opened near the Dark Portal in the Blasted Lands, others in the forests of Kalimdor, the Eastern Kingdoms, and the frozen lands of Northrend.
The Exodus
As the Cataclysm spread, groups from the Alliance, Horde, Night Elves, and Scourge were caught in these strange portals. Some had entered them hoping to escape the destruction, while others were pulled in as the rifts grew out of control.
Instead of reaching Outland or other familiar places, they were thrown into the Twisting Nether. The portals collapsed behind them, scattering the survivors across distant planets and shattered worlds in the Great Dark Beyond.
The Exiles
Years have passed since the Cataclysm. Far from Azeroth, the stranded factions have established new settlements and rebuilt their armies. They have adapted to strange environments, using whatever resources and technology they can find.
But the old rivalries remain. Humans, orcs, night elves, and undead continue to fight, now on unfamiliar worlds where resources are scarce and danger is everywhere.
Rumors of a way back to Azeroth have begun to spread. Until someone finds it, the exiles have little choice but to keep fighting for survival in the distant reaches of the Great Dark Beyond.
